Royal Wedding interview on Love Sport Radio
Barking Mad: ITV’s Lorraine marries Prince Hairy & Meghan Barkles (dogs) on daytime TV
Whilst literally every man and his dog has been wildly speculating about each fine detail of the 2018 wedding event of the year; from an estimated 16,000 glasses of champagne to the GBP50,000 fresh flowers, lemon and elderflower wedding cake – what we do know for sure is that in 2011 about 27 million Brits and 23 million Americans watched the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton, and that Metropolitan Police Security alone for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding cost British taxpayers GBP 6.35m. What will sparkle in those #RoyalWedding flutes?
In 1981 Prince Charles chose to serve his wedding guests Champagne Dom Perignon 1961 to mark the birth year of his young bride Lady Diana Spencer, whilst in 2011 Prince William selected that most British of champagnes Pol Roger white foil NV served in magnum for the wedding toasts and English sparkling wine Chapel Down Rose for the reception after party.
When Harry Met Meghan – Breaking with Royal Protocol
On Saturday 19 May 2018 at 12pm GMT William’s popular younger brother Prince Harry (grandson to Queen Elizabeth II and currently 7th in line to the throne) marries his true love mixed race American divorcee Meghan Markle (TV actress and activist) in St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle. This love match will be a welcome and radical departure from 20th century Royal protocol – remember the constitutional crisis of 1936 when King Edward VIII abdicated in order to marry Wallace Simpson or even the 1950s when Princess Margaret was refused permission to wed her war hero Group Captain Peter Townsend.
Prince pops Champagne Corks at the Polo
Whilst Prince Harry’s polo favourite Veuve Clicquot may play champagne’s traditional role in the wedding toasts, perhaps a few (non-champagne) English sparkling wines such as new Royal Warrant Holder Camel Valley and Kent sparkling wine Chapel Down may also feature at the various afterparties. Unfortunately any wine producer that supplies the Royal family is expected to maintain a dignified silence about their participation in such events!
So former editor of Britain’s The Sun newspaper Kelvin Mckenzie invited Champagne Jayne onto his new London radio station #LoveSportRadio to have a good yarn about the battle on UK supermarket shelves between prosecco and champagne, and to speculate on special sparkling wines for the #RoyalWedding … Please listen and enjoy as the whole world raises a glass to celebrate the Royal Wedding of the year… #RoyalWedding #HarryandMeghan #champagne + #English #sparkling #wine
See you there!
